He has a postgraduate degree in mental health nursing (MSc) and public health (MPH) with distinction, which were awarded to him by the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at the University of Sheffield and Hatfield, UK. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree, Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’ (Maths and Agriculture Sciences), and a DBS in Computer Literacy pursued at the University of Cape Coast and African Virtual University, Cape Coast, Ghana respectively. He is a registered mental health nurse (RMN), approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), UK. He is a registered member of the United Kingdom Public Health Register (UKPHR), a registered member of the British HIV Association (BHIVA), and the International AIDS Society (IAS), USA, as well as an accredited member of the Hertfordshire Police Community Safety Accreditation Scheme, UK.
He has worked as a lecturer and module leader in health and social sciences at the London School of Science and Technology (LSST) on the Luton campus since January 2023. He is in charge of monitoring, evaluating, and organising the standardisation of the module. As a module leader in Health and Social Sciences at LSST, he has been able to lead the module and achieve success based on the positive and excellent feedback he received from the external moderator of BNU at the end of the spring semester of 2023. He has been acknowledged and awarded for exceptional work as a module leader and marker after six months on the post, where his dedication and contributions to improve students’ performance and academic outcomes have been truly appreciated by both the students and the university. He has been appreciated and received positive, valuable, and excellent feedback from the external and internal moderators of LSST partners, especially Buckinghamshire New University (BNU), for maintaining high academic practices to ensure consistent and fair grading standards on quantitative research methods for social scientists’ levels 5 during the 2022–2023 academic year. Essentially, his module was selected and utilised by the course director of BNU as a good example to deliver marking and assessment training for lecturers and module leaders during staff development training.
More so, he has worked as a lecturer or an academic tutor of mathematics, statistics, health and social care, and public health at Brooke House College in Market Harborough from September 2017 to October 2022. He has taught mathematics, statistics, health, and social sciences at a higher education level in university programmes and as a foundation course in higher institutions in Ghana and the UK, namely Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, and Buckinghamshire. He is an overseas-trained and qualified teacher from Ghana. He completed teacher training education in Ghana at the Presbyterian Training College, Akropong Akuapem, in 1999. He was trained and specialised in teaching mathematics and agricultural sciences in Ghana. He was awarded distinction for his mathematics project work on quadrilaterals.
Furthermore, he has worked as a public health lead and programme manager for ActionPlus Foundation UK, Luton branch, from 2012 to 2019. He was awarded the best poster presentation for my work in social sciences or community-based work and the highly commended poster presentation on promoting and creating awareness of HIV/AIDS in the black African communities in Luton, United Kingdom, at the 25th Annual Conferences of the British HIV Association 2019, held in Bournemouth, UK. He has a good general knowledge of public health and public health practices in the UK and Africa, which includes the experience of tackling health inequalities and leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of health improvement and health promotion programmes; literature searching to identify clinical, economic, and epidemiological data to inform economic models; and an evidence base that informs, supports, and sustains behaviour changes to improve the health and wellbeing of a population. He has a strong understanding of international guidance and policy regarding education and sexual health. He has the ability and experience to provide a high-quality understanding of community-based approaches to project management. He can coordinate and manage projects associated with health protection and civil protection. He has good knowledge and experience contributing to the planning and implementation of community health development initiatives that impact health and well-being. He has extensive experience collaborating with a wide range of statutory organisations and working with communities to assess local needs and influence change.
He has worked as a staff nurse (forensic) at Berrywood Hospital, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, after he completed his postgraduate course in mental health nursing. As a registered mental health nurse, he has had the opportunity to practice, learn, and acquire essential and desirable skills from the range of many mental health services across Hertfordshire – UK, such as acute care mental health, mental health continuing care, mental health rehab, and mental health assessment and treatment units. Over the years, he has worked for many different organisations in the UK. He has gained substantial experience by working in different organisations, especially in the education sectors in the UK and Africa. These have helped him become a good teacher or lecturer, a team player, a good communicator, and a good listener. He has experience working with learners with special education needs and service users who live with mental health conditions and HIV/AIDS. He can work as part of a team and liaise with partners as appropriate, always maintaining sensitivity and confidentiality. He is a conscientious and proven team worker with the ability to engage with people at all levels. He can work under any condition to finish any assigned task on time, with or without supervision. He can integrate equality policies into business plans, strategies, service delivery, and employment practices. He is enthusiastic, enterprising, and can work well on his own and/or within a team. He possesses excellent customer service and communication skills. He can design and implement effective communication systems at various levels, such as with students, parents, and other professionals, as well as create comprehensive record-keeping systems and use them to inform judgements and decisions.
He can deliver, coordinate, and facilitate a range of evidence-based public health and infection control programmes. He has the ability and the experience to provide a high-quality and deep understanding of community-based approaches, including the clear involvement of children, women, and people with disabilities in health promotion. He has a proven track record of managing and developing successful teams and community-based projects that influence people and their wellbeing. He can take a strategic lead for specific long-term conditions and act in an expert advisory capacity on public health knowledge, standards, and practise across the spectrum of public health. He can communicate clearly complex analytical, statistical, and epidemiological outputs to public health professionals and non-expert staff using a variety of formats (e.g., reports, charts, tables, presentations, and in meetings).
He has extensive experience working with the media (BBC) in both reactive and proactive situations. He has had the opportunity to attend conferences across the world (especially in the UK, USA, Canada, Spain, and Africa) as a keynote speaker and a delegate, delivering presentations on creating awareness of HIV/AIDS in Luton. He was a delegate and a speaker for the International Conference & Expo on HIV & AIDS, Dallas, USA: A Global Summit on Clinical Research & Biomarkers 2017. He was a delegate at the European workshop on healthy living with HIV in Barcelona, Spain, and a delegate for Public Health England (PHE), HIV Prevention England, and BHIVA Conferences in the UK. He was a delegate for the Women in Power campaign by VSO at Parliament House, Westminster, UK. He was among the volunteers who met MPs to add their voices to a standard-alone goal on gender equality and women’s empowerment, a new framework priority on the Millennium Development Goals that expired in 2015. He made a presentation on women in power at Parliament House, Westminster, UK, through the local MPs in the UK to Justine Greening (the UK Secretary of State for International Development), who represented the UK at a UN meeting along with other world governments held in September 2013 in New York.
